Tafsir (Explanation)
This phrase, spoken by the disbelievers in Surah At-Tariq, means 'and I will devise a plot/scheme.' According to classical exegetes like Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir, the disbelievers are arrogantly declaring their intention to plot against the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Islam. However, the subsequent ayah emphasizes that Allah's plan is superior, reminding believers that human scheming, no matter how elaborate, cannot overcome Allah's divine will and protection.
Revelation Context
Surah At-Tariq is a Meccan surah revealed during the period of intense persecution of the Prophet and early Muslims. This ayah appears in the context of the disbelievers' threats and opposition to the message of Islam, reflecting the historical resistance the Prophet faced from the Quraysh and other enemies of the faith.
Related Hadiths
Related thematically to the hadith in Sahih Muslim where the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever plots against my Ummah, I will plot against them.' Also relevant is the general theme in Sahih Bukhari regarding Allah's protection of His Messenger from the plots of enemies.

Key Lesson
This ayah teaches believers that no matter how powerful or cunning their enemies may seem, their plots are ultimately futile against Allah's decree. Muslims should place their trust in Allah rather than fear human opposition, knowing that His plan always prevails.
