Tafsir (Explanation)

Allah protected them from the evil and hardship of that Day (of Judgment) and granted them radiance of countenance and joy. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi, this verse describes the reward of the righteous on the Day of Resurrection—they will be shielded from the terror and punishment that befalls others, instead receiving beauty of appearance and inner happiness as signs of Allah's favor and acceptance of their deeds.

Revelation Context

This ayah concludes Surah Al-Insan (Chapter 76), which is a Medinan surah describing the contrasting fates of the righteous and the wicked. The broader context details the rewards prepared for those who fear Allah and give charity (particularly referencing the story of those who fed the poor for the sake of Allah), culminating in this verse that encapsulates their ultimate recompense in the Hereafter.
