Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah affirms that Allah sends His salāh (blessings and mercy) upon the believers through His angels, with the purpose of guiding them from darkness (ignorance, misguidance) into light (knowledge, guidance, and faith). Classical scholars like Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir note that Allah's salāh upon the believers signifies His approval, protection, and bestowal of mercy, while the angels intercede for them. The ayah concludes by emphasizing Allah's mercy toward the believers, establishing that divine guidance and protection are manifestations of His compassion.
Revelation Context
Revealed in Medina during the period of trials and conflicts faced by the Muslim community (particularly around the Battle of the Ahzab/Khandaq). This surah addresses the importance of obedience, proper conduct, and Allah's protection during times of adversity. This specific ayah reassures believers that despite external hardships, Allah's blessings and guidance remain upon them.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever sends salāh upon me once, Allah will send salāh upon him ten times' (Sahih Muslim). Additionally, the Quran mentions in 2:257: 'Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light' - a thematically parallel verse on divine guidance.

Key Lesson
Believers should recognize that their spiritual elevation and protection come through Allah's blessings and the intercession of angels, not through their own efforts alone, fostering humility and reliance upon Allah. In times of difficulty or misguidance, this ayah reminds us that Allah's mercy and light are ever-present for those who seek Him with sincerity.
