كَىْ نُسَبِّحَكَ كَثِيرًا 33
Translations
That we may exalt You much
Transliteration
Kay nusabbiḥaka kathīrā
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah is part of Musa's (Moses) supplication to Allah, where he asks for help in glorifying and praising Allah abundantly. The phrase expresses the purpose and desire to engage in continuous tasbih (glorification of Allah's oneness and perfection). According to classical scholars like Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir, Musa is requesting divine assistance so that he and his people can properly worship and remember Allah frequently, recognizing that the ability to glorify Allah is itself a divine gift.
Revelation Context
This ayah occurs within Surah Taha (20:33), which is part of Musa's dialogue with Allah at Mount Sinai. In the preceding verses (20:25-32), Musa makes several requests to Allah to strengthen his resolve and eloquence for his mission to Pharaoh. فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يُقْضَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُۥ ۖ وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًا
So high [above all] is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muḥammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’ān before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
إِنَّمَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عِلْمًا
Your god is only Allāh, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge."
وَلَقَدْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى فَٱضْرِبْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقًا فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ يَبَسًا لَّا تَخَـٰفُ دَرَكًا وَلَا تَخْشَىٰ
And We had inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning]."
