Transliteration

Hadhihī an-nāru allatī kuntum bihā tukadhdhibūn

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah presents the deniers with the reality of Hell, saying 'This is the Fire which you used to deny.' The phrase emphasizes the confrontation between what the disbelievers rejected in the worldly life and its inevitable manifestation in the afterlife. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this is a moment of realization where the deniers witness the tangible punishment they mocked, transforming abstract warning into concrete reality.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the context of Surah At-Tur, a Meccan chapter that vividly describes the Day of Judgment and the states of the righteous and the wicked. The surah emphasizes the certainty of resurrection and the consequences of denial, addressing the Meccan polytheists who persistently rejected the Prophet's warnings about accountability in the afterlife.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The Fire has 70,000 curtains; between each curtain is a distance of 70 years' (Sunan Ibn Majah). Additionally, Surah At-Tur 52:11-12 relates to the hadith about those who turned away from the message despite its clarity.

Key Lesson

This ayah serves as a stark reminder that rejecting divine truth does not negate its reality; disbelievers will inevitably face the consequences of their denial. Modern believers should recognize that sincere warnings from Allah are mercies, and accepting truth in this life is far better than confronting its reality in punishment.
