Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes the Day of Judgment when the disbelievers will be forcefully driven and pushed into the fire of Hell with violent intensity, as indicated by the word 'daAAan' (driving/pushing forcefully). Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir explain that this depicts the humiliation and harsh treatment of those who rejected Allah's signs, emphasizing both the inevitability and the severity of punishment for those who turn away from divine guidance.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in Surah At-Tur, a Meccan chapter that emphasizes the certainty of the Day of Judgment and the consequences of disbelief. It follows warnings about those who turn away from the Quran and serves to remind the early Meccan audience of the serious consequences of rejecting monotheism and the message of the Prophet Muhammad.
