Translations
And when the souls are paired
Transliteration
Wa-idha al-nufusu zuwwijat
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah refers to the Day of Judgment when souls will be paired or reunited with their bodies for the final reckoning. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, 'zuwwijat' (paired/coupled) means each soul will be matched with its corresponding body for resurrection and accountability. This pairing signifies the restoration of the complete human entity—body and soul together—for divine judgment, emphasizing that both physical and spiritual aspects of human existence are integral to the accountability process.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of Surah At-Takwir, which vividly describes the cosmic events of the Day of Judgment. The surah establishes the certainty of resurrection through a series of oath-based declarations about celestial phenomena, and this particular ayah fits within the description of the resurrection itself, following the cosmic upheavals mentioned earlier in the surah.
Related Hadiths
