Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes one of the signs of the Day of Judgment when the wild beasts and animals will be gathered together. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this as depicting the chaos and upheaval of the Last Day, when even the creatures of the earth will be resurrected and assembled. The gathering of animals symbolizes the universal nature of Allah's judgment, extending beyond mankind to all creation, emphasizing the magnitude and comprehensiveness of the Day of Reckoning.
Revelation Context
Surah At-Takwir is a Meccan chapter that focuses entirely on the signs and events of the Day of Judgment. This ayah is part of a sequence (verses 1-14) describing successive catastrophic events that will occur at the end of time, establishing the reality of resurrection and accountability before the Meccan disbelievers.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'All creatures will be gathered on the Day of Judgment, and each will be given justice' (a concept supported in Sahih Muslim and other collections). Additionally, Surah An-Nahl 16:79 mentions how animals glorify Allah, reinforcing that all creation is subject to Allah's dominion and resurrection.
