Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah affirms that Allah's army and those who follow His cause will inevitably be victorious over their enemies. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this in the context of the believers' ultimate triumph, whether in this life or the next, as Allah's promise is absolute and His support is certain for those on the path of truth. The verse conveys both a consolation to the early Muslims facing persecution and a universal principle of divine justice.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in Surah As-Saffat, a Meccan surah that emphasizes monotheism and divine power. The surah contains narratives of previous prophets and their struggles against their peoples, providing historical precedent for the believers' confidence in Allah's aid. The broader context reassures the early Muslim community that despite their apparent weakness against Meccan opposition, Allah's support guarantees their eventual success.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Help from Allah comes with patience, relief comes with affliction, and with hardship comes ease' (Tirmidhi). Additionally, 'Verily, the help of Allah is near' (Quran 2:214) reinforces the theme of divine assistance to the believers.
