Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah affirms that victory comes through Allah's help and divine support, and He grants victory to whomever He wills according to His infinite wisdom. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir emphasize that this encompasses both spiritual victories (over the nafs and shaitan) and worldly victories in righteous causes, while the attributes of Al-Aziz (The Mighty) and Ar-Rahman (The Merciful) highlight that Allah's help is rooted in both His absolute power and His compassion toward His servants.
Revelation Context
Surah Ar-Rum addresses the broader theme of divine providence and the ultimate triumph of truth over falsehood. This specific ayah comes in the context of verses discussing the victory of the Romans over the Persians, serving as a sign of Allah's control over worldly affairs and reassurance to early Muslims facing persecution in Mecca that Allah's help would eventually come to the believers.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Help is given in proportion to the ordeal' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi). Also relevant is the hadith: 'Verily, with hardship comes ease' (Sahih Bukhari), reflecting the theme that Allah's victory and support accompany trials.

Key Lesson
This ayah teaches believers that success and victory are ultimately in Allah's hands, not determined by human strength or numbers alone, encouraging Muslims to trust in divine support while striving righteously and to recognize that patience through hardship may precede the manifestation of Allah's aid.
