Tafsir (Explanation)
Allah addresses humanity, reminding them that He alone created them, and therefore questions why they do not believe in and affirm His oneness (tawhid) and the reality of the resurrection. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this as a rhetorical rebuke, presenting the undeniable fact of creation as rational proof for belief in Allah's existence and power. The ayah emphasizes that rejecting faith after recognizing one's Creator is logically and morally indefensible.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in Surah Al-Waqi'ah, a Meccan chapter that extensively discusses the reality of the Day of Judgment and the resurrection. It is situated within a passage (verses 57-74) that uses creation as evidence for Allah's power and the certainty of the afterlife, addressing the polytheists of Mecca who denied resurrection and the existence of a Divine Judge.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The strongest among you in faith is the one who has the best character among you' (Tirmidhi). Also relevant: 'Verily, Allah does not look at your bodies or wealth, but He looks at your hearts and deeds' (Sahih Muslim), emphasizing that true belief (tasdiq) must manifest in righteous action.

Key Lesson
Recognizing Allah as our Creator should logically compel us toward genuine belief and righteous action; the denial of truth despite clear evidence is a form of willful negligence that carries grave spiritual consequences. This ayah invites contemporary believers to reflect on how the observable reality of creation serves as a constant reminder of our Lord's power and our duty to submit to His will.
