Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah means 'This is their provision on the Day of Judgment,' referring to the sustenance and reward that the righteous will receive in Paradise. According to classical scholars like Al-Qurtubi and Ibn Kathir, 'nuzul' (provision/hospitality gift) here signifies the abundant blessings and comfort prepared for the believers, contrasting with the preceding description of the delights of Paradise. The ayah emphasizes that these rewards are not temporary pleasures but the eternal provision guaranteed by Allah to His faithful servants.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in the Meccan surah Al-Waqi'ah, which focuses on the certainty of the Day of Judgment and the contrasting fates of the righteous and the wicked. The surah was revealed to remind the Quraysh of the inevitable reality of the Hereafter and the consequences of their deeds. This specific ayah concludes a description of the blessings reserved for the companions of the right hand (the righteous).
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'In Paradise, there is what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever conceived' (Sahih Bukhari 3244). Additionally, the concept of divine provision in the afterlife is reinforced in the hadith qudsi where Allah says He has prepared for His righteous servants what no eye has seen (Sahih Muslim 2824).
