Al-Qari'ah · Ayah 7

فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ 7

Translations

He will be in a pleasant life.

Transliteration

Fahuwa fee eesatin raadiyah

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes the state of the righteous person in the Hereafter—he will be in a life of contentment and pleasure. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi explain that 'eeshatin raadiyah' (a pleasant/satisfying life) refers to the ultimate comfort and happiness of Paradise, where all desires are fulfilled and the soul finds complete satisfaction. This stands in contrast to the preceding ayahs describing the fate of the wicked, emphasizing the eternal reward awaiting those whose deeds are weighed favorably on the Day of Judgment.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the latter part of Surah Al-Qari'ah, a Meccan chapter focused on the horrors and realities of the Day of Judgment. It concludes the surah's description of the ultimate destinations of people based on their deeds—the blissful state of those whose good deeds outweigh their bad ones.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Paradise is surrounded by hardships and the Fire is surrounded by desires' (Sahih Bukhari 6487). Additionally, the concept of contentment in the Hereafter is reflected in the hadith: 'In Paradise, there is that which no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor has it occurred to the heart of man' (Sahih Bukhari 3244).
