Transliteration

Innahu dhanna an lan yahura

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah refers to a disbeliever who falsely believed that he would never return to Allah for judgment and accountability. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, the pronoun refers to someone who denied resurrection and the Day of Judgment, thinking that death was the absolute end. This ayah emphasizes the certainty of return to Allah and the impossibility of escaping divine justice, directly refuting the denial of the Hereafter.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the latter part of Surah Al-Inshiqaq, which is a Meccan chapter addressing the denial of the Day of Judgment prevalent among the Quraysh. The surah emphasizes the cosmic signs of Allah's power (the splitting of the heavens and earth) and the certainty of resurrection, making this ayah part of the broader refutation of those who rejected the Afterlife.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The most truthful word spoken by a poet is the verse of Labid: Verily, all things other than Allah are false' (Sahih Bukhari). This relates thematically to the futility of denying Allah's reality and judgment. Additionally, Surah At-Taghabun 64:7 contains the hadith about belief in Allah and the Last Day as fundamental Islamic principles.
