Translations

And when the [contents of] graves are scattered [i.e., exposed],

Transliteration

Wa-idha al-quburu bu'thirat

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes the Day of Judgment when the graves will be overturned and scattered, a vivid depiction of the resurrection. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir explain that 'bu'thirat' (scattered/overturned) emphasizes the complete disruption of the graves as souls are resurrected from them, signifying the end of worldly life and the certainty of the Hereafter. This imagery serves as a reminder of divine power and the inescapability of accountability before Allah.

Revelation Context

This ayah is part of a sequence describing the events of Qiyamah (the Hour), established to warn the Quraysh of the certainty of resurrection and to encourage belief in the unseen realities of the afterlife.
