Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah affirms that those who emigrate (make hijrah) for the sake of Allah and are subsequently killed or die will be provided by Allah with excellent provision in the Hereafter. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, the 'good provision' (rizq al-hasan) refers to the blessings and bounties of Paradise, including honor, dignity, and eternal sustenance. The ayah emphasizes that Allah is the Best of Providers, ensuring that the sacrifice of the mujahidun (those striving in Allah's way) will not go unrewarded.
Revelation Context
Revealed in the Medinan period, this ayah addresses the early Muslim community who had sacrificed their homes, families, and lives in emigrating to Medina and participating in battles for the sake of Islam. It comes within the broader context of Surah Al-Hajj's discussion of struggle, patience, and divine reward for those who uphold the religion.
Related Hadiths
1) The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The martyr (shaheed) will be forgiven all sins except debt' (Sunan Ibn Majah, graded sahih). 2) 'Whoever emigrates for the sake of Allah will find on earth many places of refuge and abundance' (Sahih Bukhari 2520), emphasizing the provision promised to those who make hijrah.
