Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah affirms that the inhabitants of Paradise will not experience death after entering it, except for the first death they experienced in the worldly life. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari emphasize that Allah has protected the people of Paradise from the punishment of Hell and granted them eternal life, making this verse a consolation for the believers regarding the permanence of their reward. The verse contrasts sharply with the temporary nature of worldly existence and the horrors awaiting the disbelievers.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the concluding section of Surah Ad-Dukhan, which is a Meccan surah dealing with themes of resurrection, accountability, and the reality of the afterlife. It comes within a passage describing the blessings of Paradise for the righteous believers, providing reassurance to the early Muslim community facing persecution in Mecca about the eternal reward awaiting them.
