The Arabic root نضر (n-d-r) conveys the core meaning of freshness, bloom, and radiant beauty, particularly the kind of brightness and vitality that appears on faces or in living things. In the Quran, this root appears exclusively in descriptions of the blessed in Paradise, where their faces will shine with a luminous freshness (naḍrah) that reflects their inner joy, health, and divine favor. This radiance serves as an outward manifestation of spiritual bliss and stands in direct contrast to the descriptions of the faces of the damned, which are depicted as darkened or dust-covered.
