Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah is part of Prophet Musa's supplication to Allah, where he asks God to facilitate and ease his matters and mission. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this plea reflects Musa's recognition of his need for divine assistance in delivering the message to Pharaoh, acknowledging that ease and success come only through Allah's will. The phrase encapsulates the principle that believers should seek Allah's help in making their righteous endeavors smooth and manageable.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears within Surah Taha, revealed in Mecca during the early period of Prophet Muhammad's mission. It is part of the narrative of Prophet Musa (Moses) at the Burning Bush, where Allah commissioned him to go to Pharaoh. The context shows Musa making supplications to Allah before undertaking this difficult divine mission, establishing the precedent of seeking divine facilitation for important tasks.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught in a hadith recorded in Jami' at-Tirmidhi: 'Whenever Allah wishes good for His slave, He puts him through trials and difficulties.' This complements the ayah by showing that seeking ease should be coupled with patience through hardship. Additionally, the hadith 'Make things easy and do not make them difficult' (Sahih Bukhari) reflects the spirit of this supplication.
