Transliteration
Fa-yadhuruhā qāʿan safṣafā
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes how Allah will level the mountains into a flat, barren plain on the Day of Judgment. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, the word 'qāʿan safṣafā' (completely level and smooth) emphasizes the utter transformation of the earth's topography when the mountains are laid completely flat. This is part of the cosmic upheaval describing the final hour, wherein all natural landmarks are obliterated as signs of Allah's absolute power.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears within Surah Taha's discourse on the Day of Judgment and the scenes of the Hereafter. Surah Taha is a Meccan chapter addressing the disbelievers' denial of resurrection. The context concerns the transformation of creation and serves as a warning to those who doubt Allah's power to resurrect humanity.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The Trumpet will be blown, and everyone in the heavens and on earth will faint except those whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again and those who died will rise.' (Sahih Bukhari 3218). This complements the ayah's description of the cosmic changes preceding resurrection.
