[That] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together."

Transliteration

La-amlaa'anna jahannama minka wa mimman tabi'aka minhum ajma'een

Tafsir (Explanation)

Allah addresses Iblis (Satan), declaring that He will fill Hell with him and all those from mankind and jinn who follow him until the Day of Judgment. This ayah emphasizes the inevitable consequence of rejecting Allah's guidance and following Satan's path. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari note this is part of Allah's judgment upon Iblis after his expulsion from mercy, illustrating that those who willfully align themselves with evil will share in its punishment.

Revelation Context

This ayah concludes the dialogue between Allah and Iblis in Surah Sad (verses 71-85), where Iblis had requested respite until the Day of Judgment after his disobedience. The surah is Meccan and addresses the rejection of the Prophet Muhammad and the Quran by the disbelievers of Mecca, using Iblis's rebellion as a parallel example of arrogance and rejection of divine guidance.

(Sahih Muslim, related by Abu Hurairah)
