قُلْ هُوَ نَبَؤٌا۟ عَظِيمٌ 67

Translations

Transliteration

Qul huwa naba'un 'azim

Tafsir (Explanation)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) is commanded to declare that the Qur'an itself is a tremendous news or message of great importance. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this as the Qur'an being the greatest revelation, containing guidance for all of humanity and conveying the message of Tawhid (monotheism) and the Day of Judgment. This ayah emphasizes the supreme significance and weightiness of the divine message entrusted to the Prophet.

Revelation Context

This ayah comes toward the end of Surah Sad and responds to the disbelievers' rejection and mockery of the Qur'an. In the Meccan context, polytheists dismissed the Qur'an as mere tales or sorcery, so Allah commands the Prophet to affirm its true nature as an extraordinary message of divine origin. The surah addresses various themes of prophethood and divine wisdom.

Related Hadiths

The hadith in Sahih Bukhari (4:54:434) where the Prophet said: 'The best speech is the Book of Allah (the Qur'an).' This reinforces the extraordinary nature and superiority of the Qur'anic message referenced in this ayah.
