Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes Allah's blessing of sending down blessed water from the sky, by which He causes gardens and grain crops to grow. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi emphasize that the 'blessed water' (al-ma'u al-mubarak) refers to rain that is abundant and beneficial, manifesting Allah's mercy and power in sustaining life. The mention of both gardens (orchards with fruits) and grain (staple crops for harvesting) exemplifies the diversity of Allah's provision and the comprehensive blessing contained in a single natural phenomenon.
Revelation Context
Surah Qaf is a Meccan surah primarily focused on the themes of resurrection, divine power, and signs of Allah in creation. This ayah appears within the context of Qur'anic arguments for Allah's ability to resurrect the dead, using the evidence of His power to create and sustain life through natural means. The broader theme emphasizes that if Allah can bring dead earth to life with water, He can certainly resurrect human beings.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, 'The best charity is water' (Sunan Ibn Majah). Additionally, there are numerous hadiths in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim emphasizing the blessing of rain and agricultural abundance as signs of Allah's mercy, such as the hadith regarding the seven types of people shaded under Allah's throne on the Day of Judgment, which includes those who spend in charity.

Key Lesson
This ayah reminds us that the most basic necessities of life—water, food, and shelter—are divine blessings we often take for granted, and recognizing these gifts should increase our gratitude to Allah and our responsibility as stewards of His creation. It also demonstrates that Allah's power to resurrect is evident in His daily provision and the transformation of barren earth into flourishing life.
