Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah depicts the Day of Resurrection when the earth will split apart and the dead will emerge from their graves rapidly to answer Allah's call. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this as Allah's effortless resurrection of all creation, emphasizing that what seems impossible to humans is utterly easy for Allah. The phrase 'that gathering is upon Us easy' (dhalika hashrun 'alayna yasir) stresses Allah's absolute power and the certainty of the Resurrection, dismissing any doubt about whether Allah can resurrect the dead.
Revelation Context
Surah Qaf, revealed in Mecca during the early Islamic period, focuses on themes of resurrection and the Hereafter as a response to Meccan disbelievers who denied life after death. This ayah appears within a passage describing the scenes of the Day of Judgment, reinforcing the Quranic message that resurrection is inevitable and divinely ordained.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The resurrection will take place on a day like the blink of an eye or quicker' (Tirmidhi). Additionally, Surah Qaf 50:44 is contextually related to the hadith about how quickly souls will be resurrected: 'Between the first and second trumpet blast will be forty' (Sahih Muslim).
