Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah affirms that Allah will grant the believers full reward for their righteous deeds and will increase it beyond measure from His boundless grace. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi emphasize that this promise encompasses both the reward in this life and the Hereafter, demonstrating Allah's justice (in giving full reward) and His generosity (in adding extra bounty). The concluding attributes—'Forgiving' (Ghafoor) and 'Appreciative' (Shakoor)—highlight that Allah overlooks human shortcomings while fully recognizing and honoring even the smallest acts of obedience.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah Fatir (Chapter 35), a Meccan chapter that emphasizes Allah's creative power and sovereignty, particularly regarding His providence over believers. The broader context (verses 29-30) discusses those who recite the Quran and spend from what Allah has provided, and this ayah promises them divine reward—serving as encouragement to the early Muslim community facing persecution in Mecca.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever acts with kindness and gentleness, Allah increases him in honor and dignity; and whoever behaves with harshness and severity, Allah diminishes him' (Sahih Muslim). Additionally, 'Indeed, Allah does not waste the reward of the doers of good' (Quran 9:120), which is reinforced by numerous hadith traditions emphasizing divine reward for righteous action.
