Transliteration

Wa yunajji-llahu alladhina ittaqaw bi-mafazatihim la yamassuhumus-su'u wa la hum yahzanun

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah affirms that Allah saves and delivers the God-fearing (al-muttaqun) through their success and victory, protecting them from evil and sorrow in both the worldly life and the Hereafter. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi emphasize that 'mafazatihim' (their success/salvation) refers to the ultimate triumph granted by Allah to those who maintain taqwa (God-consciousness), while the negation of harm and grief reflects the complete spiritual and material protection promised to the righteous on the Day of Judgment.

Revelation Context

Surah Az-Zumar was revealed in Mecca during the later Meccan period, addressing believers facing persecution and encouraging steadfastness through faith. This ayah appears within a passage emphasizing the rewards of taqwa and the protection Allah grants to the faithful, providing comfort to believers struggling against opposition.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever fears Allah, He will make a way out for him from every distress and will provide him from sources he never expected' (Sunan Ibn Majah and Sunan At-Tirmidhi). Additionally, the concept connects to the hadith in Sahih Muslim where the Prophet emphasized that no one who maintains taqwa will be deprived of good.
