Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah expresses the gratitude of the inhabitants of Paradise as they reflect on Allah's favor upon them and His protection from the torment of the scorching wind (as-samum). According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, as-samum refers to the hellfire's scorching wind, symbolizing the severe punishment of Hell from which the blessed have been saved. The verse emphasizes divine grace (mann) and divine protection (wiqayah) as interconnected blessings that grant ultimate salvation.

The ayah is part of a passage (52:17-28) depicting the righteous inhabitants of Paradise in conversation, expressing their contentment and gratitude for being saved from punishment—establishing a thematic contrast between the blessed and the damned.
