Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah is part of Prophet Ibrahim's supplication where he asks Allah to make him among the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss (Jannah). According to classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this represents a profound request for entry into Paradise and righteous legacy. The term 'warathah' (inheritors) emphasizes not merely entering Paradise, but being among those who truly deserve it through their deeds and faith, making this a humble yet comprehensive prayer for both spiritual achievement and eternal reward.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears within Surah Ash-Shu'ara, a Meccan chapter that recounts stories of various prophets and their calls to their people. It specifically comes from Ibrahim's prayer (26:83-89), where he supplicates to Allah after preaching to his people. The context emphasizes prophetic supplication and the reliance upon Allah for guidance and ultimate success, reflecting the Meccan period's focus on monotheism and the hereafter.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When any one of you makes a supplication, let him seek what is good for him and not curse himself, his children, or his wealth.' (Sunan Abu Dawud 1479). Additionally, the principle of supplication itself is reinforced in Hadith Qudsi: 'I am as My servant expects of Me' (Sahih Bukhari 7405), emphasizing the sincerity required in such prayers.
