Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah is the response of Pharaoh's people to Moses' call to believe in Allah and leave Egypt. They boastfully declare that they are all united and vigilant/prepared (as a military force ready to resist). According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this statement reflects their arrogance and false confidence in their numbers and strength, demonstrating how disbelievers rely on worldly power rather than submission to Allah's signs.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the narrative of Moses and Pharaoh in Surah Ash-Shu'ara, which recounts how Pharaoh's people rejected Moses despite witnessing clear miracles. The ayah captures the moment when the disbelievers express their collective defiance, setting up the contrast between human pride and divine power that leads to their eventual destruction.

Related Hadiths

While no hadith directly quotes this ayah, Surah Al-Fil (105:1-5) conveys a similar theme of how those who unite in defiance against Allah's religion are ultimately defeated. Additionally, Sahih Bukhari contains hadiths about the arrogance of Pharaoh's people and their rejection of divine guidance.

Key Lesson

This ayah reminds us that numerical strength and material power offer no protection against Allah's plan when people turn away from His guidance. True security lies not in collective worldly might, but in submission to Allah and obedience to His messengers.
