Transliteration

Wa-innahu latanzilu rabbi al-'alameen

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah affirms that the Qur'an is indeed a revelation from Allah, the Lord of all worlds, not a human composition as the disbelievers claimed. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari emphasize that this declaration serves as a direct refutation of the Meccan pagans' accusation that Muhammad (peace be upon him) fabricated the Qur'an, establishing its divine origin and supreme authority. The emphasis on 'rabb al-'alameen' (Lord of the worlds) underscores that this revelation comes from the absolute sovereign of creation, lending it universal and eternal significance.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah Ash-Shu'ara, a Meccan surah that extensively refutes the accusations of the disbelievers who denied the Qur'an's divine origin. The broader context of verses 192-227 contains the statement 'wa-innahu la-tanzilu rabbi al-'alameen' repeated multiple times, emphasizing the Qur'an's authenticity in response to contemporary rejections of the Prophet's message.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The best among you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it' (Sahih Bukhari 5027), highlighting the importance of recognizing and preserving this divine revelation. Additionally, 'Whoever listens to one verse from the Book of Allah with faith and good intention, Allah will grant him knowledge and forgiveness' (related in various collections), emphasizing the Qur'an's divine status and beneficial nature.
