Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah announces the arrival of the Day of Judgment, which the disbelievers rejected and denied during their earthly life. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari note that this statement serves as a powerful reminder that what the deniers mocked and rejected as impossible has now become their inescapable reality. The emphasis on 'this day' (hādhā yawm) marks the transition from the abstract warnings of the past to the concrete manifestation of divine justice.

It comes after the description of the arrangement of the angels and serves as a direct address to those who rejected the message of the Quran and denied the coming of the Day of Judgment. The surah repeatedly emphasizes themes of divine power and accountability.
