This ayah emphasizes the divine promise fulfilled to Ibrahim in his old age, establishing Ishaq as part of the prophetic lineage. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir note this represents Allah's mercy and fulfillment of His covenant, as Ishaq would himself become a messenger and father of prophets.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears within the Meccan surah As-Saffat, which discusses various prophets and their stories. It contextualizes Ibrahim's narrative, specifically the moment when Allah announced Ishaq's birth as a reward for Ibrahim's patience and obedience. This comes after Ibrahim's trials and his willingness to sacrifice his son, demonstrating Allah's blessing upon him.
