Tattabi'uha ar-radifah
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah refers to the second blowing of the trumpet (Sur) on the Day of Judgment, which will follow the first blowing. Al-Tabari explains that 'ar-radifah' (the following one) denotes the second blast that pursues and follows the first, bringing about the resurrection and gathering of all creation. Ibn Kathir emphasizes that this second trumpet blast will resurrect the dead and assemble them for the final reckoning, contrasting with the first blast which causes death and destruction.
Revelation Context
Surah An-Nazi'at is a Meccan surah that vividly describes the events of the Day of Judgment and the resurrection. This ayah appears within the opening passages that detail the sequential events of Qiyamah (the Last Day), establishing the certainty and inevitability of divine judgment for the Meccan disbelievers who denied resurrection.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said regarding the trumpet: 'The first blast will be a blast of astonishment, and the second will be a blast of resurrection' (Musnad Ahmad). Also relevant is the hadith in Sahih Muslim describing how the trumpet will be blown twice - once causing death and once causing resurrection.
