Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah refers to Allah's extraction of water and pasture from the earth, demonstrating His power in creating the means of sustenance for all living creatures. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this as evidence of divine creation and provision—Allah brought forth the water (for drinking and irrigation) and the vegetation (for grazing and food) from within the earth itself, establishing the interdependence of earthly elements that sustain life.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears within Surah An-Nazi'at's broader context of describing the creation of the earth and heavens as signs of Allah's majesty and power. Verses 27-33 form a coherent passage detailing the stages of earth's formation, from its flattening to the provision of sustenance, reinforcing the Meccan theme of tawhid (monotheism) and Allah's absolute creative authority.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'For every disease, Allah has given a cure' (Sahih Bukhari 5678), relating to the comprehensive provision Allah has made in creation. Also relevant is the hadith in Sahih Muslim about the Messenger encouraging care for vegetation and planting, reflecting the bounty mentioned in this verse.
