Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes Pharaoh gathering his people and calling them to worship him instead of Allah. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, Pharaoh convened his people (likely his nobles and army) and made a proclamation asserting his divinity and authority. This represents the peak of his arrogance and deviation, demonstrating how those who reject Allah's signs become increasingly bold in their kufr (disbelief) and attempt to lead others astray.

Revelation Context

This ayah is part of the narrative of Surah An-Nazi'at describing the interaction between Prophet Musa and Pharaoh. The surah recounts the signs Allah gave Musa to present to Pharaoh, and this particular verse depicts Pharaoh's response of gathering his people and calling them to his false claim of divinity, representing the climax of his rejection and arrogance.

Related Hadiths

The hadith in Sahih Bukhari regarding Pharaoh's claim to divinity is referenced when discussing 79:24, where Pharaoh says 'I am your Lord, the Most High' (Ana Rabbukum al-A'la). This directly precedes our ayah in the narrative sequence.

Key Lesson

This ayah reminds us that arrogance and deviation from truth cause people to become bolder in spreading falsehood and gathering followers around their misguidance. Modern believers should recognize how those who reject divine guidance often seek to influence and mislead others, and should remain steadfast in their faith despite societal pressure.
