Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah affirms that Allah created all things in pairs—male and female—as a fundamental principle of creation. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari emphasize this as evidence of Allah's perfect wisdom and design, establishing the complementary nature of creation. The mention of pairs extends beyond humans to all of creation, reflecting the Quranic principle that duality and pairing are intrinsic to the natural order (as seen in Surah 51:49).
Revelation Context
Surah An-Najm is a Meccan chapter revealed during the early period of Islam, addressing the polytheists' denial of monotheism and resurrection. This particular ayah serves as part of the broader argument proving Allah's existence and uniqueness through observable signs of creation, specifically the complementary duality found throughout nature.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) stated: 'The best of you are those who are best to their wives, and I am the best among you to my wives' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi). This hadith relates to the wisdom of creating pairs and the mutual rights and responsibilities between spouses.
