Tafsir (Explanation)

Allah has created for you spouses from among yourselves and granted you children and grandchildren through them, while providing you with wholesome sustenance—yet despite these manifest blessings, many turn to falsehood and deny God's favors. This ayah emphasizes the divine origin of the family bond and provision as signs of Allah's mercy, while critiquing those who deny these evident blessings. Classical scholars like Al-Qurtubi note that this passage uses rhetorical questioning to highlight the ingratitude of denying clear signs of divine favor.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah An-Nahl, a Meccan surah that emphasizes signs of Allah's sovereignty and mercy in creation. The broader context (16:66-76) discusses various divine blessings—livestock, fruits, honey—leading to this particular mention of the blessing of spouses and children as fundamental evidence of divine care and wisdom.
