Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah refers to Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), stating that Allah granted him goodness and honor in this worldly life through his descendants, legacy, and righteous standing among the people. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir explain that 'hasanah' (goodness) encompasses both material blessings and spiritual virtue, while his status in the Hereafter is assured among the righteous and beloved servants of Allah. Al-Qurtubi notes this as confirmation of Ibrahim's exalted position in both worlds as a result of his unwavering faith and obedience.

Revelation Context

This ayah concludes the narrative about Prophet Ibrahim in Surah An-Nahl, which discusses various prophets and their stories. It appears in the Meccan period and serves to highlight the rewards Allah grants to those who remain steadfast in faith and righteousness, providing encouragement to the early Muslim community facing persecution.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Ibrahim was not a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true believer in monotheism' (Sahih Bukhari 3:50). Additionally, the Quran states elsewhere that Ibrahim is among 'the most honorable of people' (Surah Al-An'am 6:86), reinforcing the theme of his elevated status.
