Transliteration
Fakānat hubā'an munbaththā
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes how the heavens and earth will be scattered into dust on the Day of Judgment. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, 'hubā' (هبآء) refers to fine, scattered dust particles, while 'munbaththā' means dispersed or spread out. This depicts the complete destruction and disintegration of the physical universe as a prelude to the eternal life of the Hereafter, emphasizing Allah's absolute power to annihilate creation.
Revelation Context
This ayah occurs within Surah Al-Waqi'ah, which describes the events of the Day of Judgment and the division of souls into three categories. The broader context (verses 1-56) paints a vivid picture of Qiyamah (the Day of Resurrection), establishing the certainty of this inevitable event and motivating believers toward righteous action.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said regarding the destruction of the world: 'This world compared to the Hereafter is like one of you putting his finger in the ocean—let him see what returns to him' (Sahih Muslim 2858). Additionally, Surah Az-Zumar 39:67 complements this theme: 'And the earth will be grasped by His hand on the Day of Judgment.'
