Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes how the moon will be eclipsed or lose its light on the Day of Resurrection as part of the cosmic upheaval that accompanies the end of times. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi interpret 'khasafa' (خسف) as the moon being swallowed or eclipsed, signifying the collapse of the celestial order. This verse emphasizes that even the heavenly bodies, which seem eternal and reliable, will undergo transformation, demonstrating Allah's absolute power and the inevitability of the Last Day.
Revelation Context
Surah Al-Qiyamah is a Meccan surah that focuses on the signs and events of the Day of Resurrection. This particular ayah is part of a passage (75:7-10) describing the cosmic signs that will precede and accompany Qiyamah, meant to convince the deniers in Mecca of the reality of the afterlife and divine judgment.
