Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes the faces of the righteous on the Day of Resurrection as looking towards their Lord, which classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi interpret as the believers gazing upon Allah's face—a unique honor granted to the pious in Paradise. This vision of Allah represents the ultimate reward and closeness to the Divine, surpassing all material blessings, as the blessed will witness their Lord directly. The term 'nāzirah' (looking/gazing) indicates both physical sight and spiritual attentiveness, reflecting the intimate relationship between the servant and Creator in the Hereafter.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in Surah Al-Qiyamah, a Meccan surah focused on the certainty of the Day of Judgment and resurrection. It comes within a passage (75:22-23) describing the joyful state of the righteous believers on that day, emphasizing the spiritual rewards awaiting them as a contrast to the punishment of the disbelievers mentioned earlier in the surah.
