Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah states that none deny the Day of Judgment except every transgressor and sinner. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this verse emphasizes that those who reject the Hereafter are characterized by their excessive wrongdoing and moral corruption in this life. The denial of accountability in the afterlife naturally leads to, and stems from, a heart already committed to transgression and sin in the present world.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in the context of Surah Al-Mutaffifin, which was revealed in Mecca and addresses the theme of Divine justice and the certainty of the Day of Judgment. It follows verses describing those who cheat in measurements and weight, establishing a thematic connection between worldly deception and the denial of ultimate divine accountability.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The best of you are those with the best character, and the worst of you are the liars' (Tirmidhi). Additionally, in Sahih Muslim, the Prophet warned that 'No one believes truly until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself,' showing the connection between faith and moral character that contrasts with the 'mu'tadin' (transgressors) mentioned in this ayah.

Key Lesson
This ayah teaches us that sincere belief in the Hereafter is inseparable from righteous conduct in this life; those who persistently transgress and commit sins often harden their hearts against belief in divine accountability. For believers, this serves as a reminder that maintaining moral integrity and avoiding excess in wrongdoing strengthens our faith and consciousness of Allah's ultimate judgment.
