Tafsir (Explanation)

Nuh (peace be upon him) appeals to Allah for help against those who rejected and denied him, seeking divine support against his people's obstinate disbelief. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari note that this supplication reflects Nuh's patience after 950 years of calling to Allah while his people mocked and rejected him. This ayah emphasizes that the ultimate recourse for the righteous when facing opposition is to turn to Allah in prayer, seeking His assistance against falsehood and rejection.

Revelation Context

This ayah occurs within the narrative of Prophet Nuh's mission in Surah Al-Mu'minun. The broader context shows Nuh's struggle against his people's denial despite his patient preaching. This passage comes after Nuh has exhausted earthly means of persuasion and turns to his Lord in supplication, which is a recurring theme throughout the surah highlighting the trials of the prophets.

Related Hadiths

The Quran repeatedly mentions Nuh's supplication in 71:26, where he prays: 'And Nuh said: My Lord, leave not upon the earth from the disbelievers an inhabitant.' This reflects the same desperate appeal to Allah against those who reject truth, documented throughout authentic Islamic sources.
