Qul huwa alladhee dhara'akum fee al-ardi wa-ilayhi tuhsharun
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah emphasizes Allah's absolute sovereignty and creative power, with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) commanded to proclaim that Allah alone is the One who created and dispersed humanity throughout the earth, and to Him alone all creatures will be gathered on the Day of Judgment. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari note this ayah reinforces tawhid (monotheism) by connecting Allah's role as Creator and Sustainer with His role as the Final Judge before whom all must answer, negating any partnership in creation or authority.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in Surah Al-Mulk, a Meccan surah revealed to strengthen the belief in Allah's oneness during a period of intense pagan opposition in Mecca. The surah's overall theme centers on Allah's absolute dominion and control over all creation, serving as a powerful reminder to the early Muslim community of their ultimate accountability to Allah alone.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Everyone will taste death. Then to Us will you be returned' (Quran 29:57). Additionally, a hadith in Sahih Muslim states that the Prophet emphasized the certainty of the gathering on the Day of Judgment, affirming that all creation will be brought before Allah for judgment regardless of their deeds in life.
