Tafsir (Explanation)
Allah declares His intention to cast the disbeliever (Walīd ibn al-Mughīrah, as mentioned in the surah's context) into Hellfire (Saqar). This ayah emphasizes the certainty of divine punishment for those who reject faith and persist in arrogance and denial. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari note this represents Allah's irrevocable decree against the stubborn rejector of the Message.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of Surah Al-Muddaththir, which was revealed in Mecca during the early period of prophethood. The specific context involves Allah's response to Walīd ibn al-Mughīrah, a wealthy Meccan leader who rejected the Quran despite its clarity, exemplifying those whose hearts are sealed from guidance. The surah discusses the consequences of rejecting divine signs.
Related Hadiths
Sahih Bukhari reports that the Prophet (ﷺ) described Saqar as one of the levels of Hellfire. Additionally, the Quran frequently emphasizes that disbelievers will be cast into the Fire, as in multiple passages warning of this consequence (e.g., Surah Al-Hajj 22:20).
