Al-Hijr · Ayah 89

وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ 89

Translations

And say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner" -

Transliteration

Wa qul inni ana an-nadhiru al-mubin

Tafsir (Explanation)

In this ayah, Allah commands Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to proclaim that he is 'the Clear Warner'—a messenger sent with explicit and manifest warnings to humanity. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari note that this declaration emphasizes the Prophet's role as a messenger who conveys divine warnings with clarity and certainty, calling people away from idolatry and toward monotheism. The word 'mubin' (clear/manifest) indicates that the message is unambiguous and presented without obscurity, making the responsibility of those who hear it all the more significant.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah Al-Hijr, a Meccan chapter, during the early period of the Prophet's mission when he faced considerable opposition. The surah itself addresses the disbelievers' mockery and rejection of the message. In this context, the verse serves as a divine affirmation of the Prophet's role and authority, commanding him to boldly declare his prophetic mission despite rejection from the Meccan polytheists.

Related Hadiths

The concept of the Prophet as a 'warner' (nadhir) is reinforced in numerous hadiths. See Sahih Bukhari (Book of Tafsir) where the Prophet stated: 'I have been sent as a warner and a bringer of glad tidings.' Similarly, in Sunan Ibn Majah, the Prophet emphasized his role in warning against shirk (associating partners with Allah).
