Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah commands the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to glorify and exalt Allah by His greatest name. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi interpret this as an instruction to continuously praise Allah and acknowledge His majesty and greatness, serving as a fitting conclusion to Surah Al-Haqqah which emphasizes divine truth and accountability on the Day of Judgment.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears at the conclusion of Surah Al-Haqqah, a Meccan surah that emphasizes the certainty of the Day of Judgment and divine truth. The command to glorify Allah serves as a spiritual response and reassurance to the Prophet facing opposition—that his duty is to praise and trust in Allah's greatness despite worldly challenges.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The most loved words to Allah are four: Subhan'Allah (Glory be to Allah), wa alhamdulillah (and all praise be to Allah), wa la ilaha illallah (there is none worthy of worship but Allah), and Allahu akbar (Allah is the Greatest)' - (Sahih Muslim). Additionally, the practice of tasbih (glorification) is encouraged throughout Islamic tradition as a means of drawing closer to Allah.
