فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَـٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌ 35

Translations

So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend

Transliteration

Falaysa lahu al-yawma hahuna hamim

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah states that on the Day of Judgment, the disbeliever will have no intimate friend or helper to aid him. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir explain that 'hamim' (حميم) refers to a close, sincere friend or protector—those worldly relationships built on falsehood will be severed in the Hereafter. Al-Qurtubi notes this emphasizes the absolute isolation of those who rejected faith, as even their closest companions will disassociate from them.

Revelation Context

Surah Al-Haqqah is a Meccan chapter focused on the inevitability and reality of the Day of Judgment. This ayah appears in the context of describing the state of the disbelievers on that Day, reinforcing the themes of accountability and the uselessness of worldly alliances when facing divine justice.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'A man's dearest friend on the Day of Resurrection will be his deeds' (Tirmidhi). Additionally, Surah Al-Dukhaan 44:41 conveys similar meaning: those who reject faith will have no protector or helper.
