Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes the reward of the righteous servants mentioned in the preceding verses—they will be granted elevated chambers (al-ghurfah) in Paradise as recompense for their patience and steadfastness in faith. Within these chambers, they will be greeted with salutations and peace, signifying honor, dignity, and the pleasantness of their eternal abode. Classical scholars like Al-Qurtubi and Ibn Kathir emphasize that al-ghurfah represents the highest levels of Paradise, reserved for those who demonstrated exceptional sabr (patience) in obedience to Allah and abstinence from sin.

Revelation Context

This ayah concludes the description of 'ibad al-Rahman (the servants of the Most Merciful) that begins at 25:63, delineating their characteristics—humility, clemency, worship, charity, and moderation. The surah Al-Furqan (The Criterion) was revealed in Mecca to distinguish between truth and falsehood, and this passage illustrates the ultimate distinction: the eternal rewards awaiting the righteous. The context emphasizes that patience through trials and steadfast adherence to Divine guidance lead to the highest stations in the Hereafter.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The greatest reward for a deed is Paradise' (Tirmidhi). Additionally, Hadith Qudsi: 'I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no heart has imagined' (Sahih Bukhari 3244), which encompasses the concept of elevated chambers and divine greetings described in this ayah.
