Transliteration
Innaha sā'at mustaqarran wa maqāmā
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah refers to Hell (Jahannam) as an evil abode and evil resting place for the disbelievers. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi explain that 'mustaqarran' (resting place) and 'maqāmā' (dwelling/abode) emphasize the permanence and wretchedness of Hell as the final destination, underscoring the gravity of rejecting divine guidance. The repetition of condemnation emphasizes the severity of this punishment.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in the context of Surah Al-Furqan, which discusses the characteristics of believers and disbelievers, and their respective destinations. The ayah follows verses describing the arrogance of disbelievers and serves as a stark warning about the consequences of rejecting Allah's signs and the message of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said in Sahih Muslim: 'The Fire will be displayed to the people on the Day of Resurrection, and they will say: O Lord, have mercy on us!' This connects to warnings throughout the Quran about Hell's reality. Additionally, Surah At-Tahrim (66:6) mentions Hell as a severe punishment.
